Senior Pastor Brother Mike Howell

I believe that the pastor of a local church has several major responsibilities to fulfill if he is to perform his role in a way that honors God. The primary responsibility of the pastor is to preach the word of God. By doing this he feeds the flock of God and helps them grow stronger in their walk with God. By preaching the word of God, the pastor also helps to equip the saints to do the work God has called them to do. Also by preaching the word of God, the pastor lifts up name of Jesus, and then Jesus will draw men to Himself. A second major responsibility of the pastor is to seek God’s will and direction through prayer and the word, both for his personal life and for the church that he pastors. A pastor is personally accountable to God to fulfill the call that God as placed on his life. And in my opinion, the only way for a pastor to do that is to walk with God in his own personal devotional life. A third major responsibility of a pastor who fulfills the biblical call on his life is to lead the church in evangelism, discipleship, and missions. We must reach men and women with the gospel, but also teach them how to walk with God. If we are to fulfill the great commission, the church must be involved in discipling those who respond to the gospel. At the same time, we must also be striving to take the gospel to the world, beginning in our own neighborhood and then reaching out to the ends of the earth. I feel a major responsibility to lead the men in the congregation. So I spend a lot of time and energy in personally discipling men.
